When most of us need
something, we have the luxury of going to
the store to buy it. But for those people
who don’t have extra money to spend, there
is a place in town that offers free clothing
and household items to those in need.
Located at 101 Washington Street, our
distribution center with the same name is
open to the public for free “shopping” on
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. We take donations of
in-season clothing and small household items
on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are
also a Coats for Kids site, so wintertime
brings many less fortunate people to 101 in
search of warm clothing and coats for their
families.
The distribution center is operated solely
by volunteers, who are always busy sorting
and displaying the clothes for optimum
efficiency. Due to space constraints, we
must limit clothing donations to a maximum
of two bags of in-season clothing. The
collaboration between Franklin Community
Center, other local agencies, our generous
donors and our volunteers, makes 101
Washington Street a reliable and comforting
place for those in need, as well as a
dependable site for people looking to donate
their items to a good cause.
